Summary

Ali Bedni Bugyal trek stands as one of India’s most quintessential alpine experiences, offering a harmonious blend of dense woodland trails and the sprawling grandeur of high-altitude meadows. Located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, this circuit is widely regarded as a "photographer’s paradise," providing front-row seats to the formidable Trishul and Nanda Ghunti peaks. This six-day journey is more than just a physical challenge; it is a deep dive into the cultural heart of the Garhwal Himalayas.

Trek begins with a scenic yet long drive from Rishikesh to Lohajung (2,303 m). Spanning 290 km, this transit winds through the heart of the mountains, tracing the Alaknanda and Pindar rivers. Lohajung serves as the vital basecamp for this trek, offering trekkers a final taste of village hospitality in traditional homestays before they venture into the wild.

Trek kicks off with a steady climb toward Didna Village. This 6 km stretch is a perfect warm-up, immersing travelers in thick forests of oak and rhododendron. By the time you reach the village at 2,484 m, the air thins slightly, and the rustic charm of remote Himalayan life becomes the backdrop for your first night under the stars or in a local dwelling.

Transition from Didna to Ali Bugyal (3,393 m) is arguably the highlight of the journey. As you conquer the 9.5 km ascent, the canopy of trees suddenly gives way to "Bugyals"—vast, undulating high-altitude meadows that seem to touch the sky. Ali Bugyal is one of the largest meadows in Asia, offering a velvet-green carpet that stretches toward the horizon, framed by the jagged silhouettes of the Greater Himalayas.

On the fourth day, the trail leads to the legendary Bedni Bugyal (3,825 m). This sacred site is home to the Bedni Kund, a high-altitude lake that reflects the surrounding peaks like a mirror. After soaking in the panoramic views, the trek begins its descent toward Gharoli Patal, a campsite nestled back within the treeline, providing a sheltered and serene environment for the night.

The final leg of the trek covers 11 km, passing through the picturesque Wan Village. This descent allows trekkers to witness the vibrant local agriculture and stone-roofed houses that define the region. The journey concludes where it began, in Lohajung, before a final 10-hour drive back to the spiritual hub of Rishikesh.
