Summary

Annapurna North Base Camp (ANBC) trek is one of Nepal’s best-kept secrets, offering a raw and secluded alternative to the more frequented southern routes. This expedition follows the historic "Maurice Herzog Trail"—the path taken by the first successful expedition to summit an 8,000-meter peak in 1950.

For trekkers seeking solitude, dramatic high-altitude landscapes, and a deep connection with Himalayan history, this 7-day itinerary provides a condensed yet exhilarating journey into the heart of the Annapurna Massif.

The adventure begins in the lakeside city of Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. From here, the transition from urban comfort to rugged wilderness is swift. A scenic drive leads to Tatopani, famous for its natural hot springs, situated at a modest 1,244 meters. This initial phase allows trekkers to soak in the local culture of the Kali Gandaki Valley before the true ascent begins.

As the route progresses toward Humkhola, the landscape shifts dramatically. The drive gives way to a foot journey starting at Sandhi Kharka (3,318 m). Here, the air thins and the lush greenery of the lower altitudes is replaced by the stark, majestic beauty of the high Himalayas.

The heart of the trek lies between Bhusket Mela and the Annapurna North Base Camp (4,130 m). This section is physically demanding, requiring a steep ascent through rocky terrain and alpine meadows.
